The Grand Appeal is 21!
This year marks the 21st anniversary of our charity The Grand Appeal, the Bristol Children's Hospital Charity, and to start the celebrations we are delighted to announce we have raised an incredible £40million!
2016 is also a very important year for Bristol Children’s Hospital, which celebrates its 150th anniversary.
The Grand Appeal was founded in 1995 to raise funds to build a brand new children’s hospital in Bristol, which would replace the old Victorian building and be the very first in the UK designed specifically around children.
To launch the charity, beloved Bristol-based animation studios Aardman donated the use of everyone’s favourite duo Wallace & Gromit to spearhead fundraising. With the incredible support of local fundraisers, businesses and trusts, by 2001 we raised an amazing £12million, in time for the new state-of-the-art Bristol Children’s Hospital to open its doors.
Since then we’ve continued to support the hospital in every way we can, funding life-saving medical equipment and pioneering new facilities that keep it among the very best in the country. We also fund patient-friendly artwork, playrooms and therapies to keep children’s comfort and wellbeing at the heart of the hospital.
Now 21 years after we started, we are incredibly proud to have reached this £40million milestone – and we look forward to the next 21 years!
Thank you so much to all our amazing supporters for your dedication, kindness and generosity!
